Tribal gaming Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Tribal gaming - Assignment Example In the absence of tribal gaming, reservations can still be effective in terms of reducing the rate of poverty, decreasing the rate of unemployment, and increasing the tribalââ¬â¢s income. However, reservations economies are systematically underdeveloped because most of them are located in poor regions of a country. Due to their limited resources, income and ready access to nearby markets, most of the reservations economies remain underdeveloped. Tribal gaming strategies are commonly used to gradually improve their overall socio-economic conditions of each tribe (i.e. improved literacy rate, better access to education, higher employment rates and higher income, etc.). To ensure that tribal communities are able to maintain their cultural values and practices despite the process of economic modernization, most of the tribal governments are creating a framework that aims to strengthen the cultural background, education, and identity of the tribal nations. Through the use of cultural revitalization strategies, it is possible to preserve or maintain the cultural values and practices of the all tribal communities without the need to adversely affect their economic growth. The tribal gaming investments reflected the underlying cultural values of the tribal people because of its ââ¬Å"spillover effectsâ⬠. It means that some people from the tribes could accept gambling as something that is normal.
Reliability Essay Example for Free
Reliability Essay The most known and widely used types of reliability are: parallel forms, test-retest, interrater, and internal consistency reliability. Reliability is important because it gives precision, accuracy and dependable answers in researches. Consistency of measurement means there is a reliable measurement. If a method or particular piece of research is not reliable, researchers will and should lack confidence that the results obtained would be obtain again, and can thus hardly be confident that they reflect reality. Even though that several examples of research, which reach similar results, even if the research is not strictly replicable, may still help researchers to increase their confidence in reliability, and perhaps also guide them toward appreciating the range of applicability of a theory (Kurpius Stafford, 2006). Standard scores are the scores that are comparable because they are standardized in units of standard deviation while percentile or a percentile rank is a point in a distribution of scores below which a given percentage of scores fall. It is a particular point within an entire distribution of scores. Percentile ranks have one major disadvantage in comparison to standard scores: percentile ranks have unequal units along their scale. Percentile ranks in the middle of the distribution tend to overemphasize differences between standard scores, where as percentile ranks at the tails of the distribution tend to underemphasize difference performance. The measure of central tendency is a statistical technique wherein a single number is used to represent a group of numbers. Three different central tendency measures that are usually applied in researches are the mean, median and mode. These central tendency measures are significant because they have their own importance in measuring the central tendency. Mean provides the best estimate of average. However median is more reliable because it is clear and fixed on the other hand, mode is used when a quick and approximate measure of central tendency is required.

Essay on the Death of Freedom in Kate Chopins The Story of an Hour
Death of Freedom in The Story of an Hour In Kate Chopinââ¬â¢s short story, "The Story of an Hour," we are told that Mrs. Mallard, the main character, has a heart condition. Then Mrs. Mallardââ¬â¢s sister, Josephine, tells her Mr. Mallard died in a railroad disaster. At the end of the story, Mrs. Mallard dies when her husband suddenly walks through the door. The doctor says that Mrs. Mallard died "of heart diseaseââ¬âof joy that kills" (Chopin 27). Some people may agree with the doctorââ¬â¢s diagnosis, but I think he was wrong. I believe that Mrs. Mallardââ¬â¢s death was not because she was happy to see her husband, but because she was sad about the loss of her newly-found freedom. I also think Mrs. Mallard realized that love is not a substitute for the freedom to live your own life. Throughout this short story there are examples showing how Mrs. Mallardââ¬â¢s actions and ideas are focused on her freedom. There are also thoughts and ideas that show Mrs. Mallard realizing that love is by no means a substitute for independence. When Mrs. Mallard was told of her husbandââ¬â¢s death she "did not hear the story as many women have heard the same, with a paralyzed inability to accept its significance" (Chopin 25). This shows that Mrs. Mallard was not utterly grief-stricken or she would have had this so-called "glazed-over look." She also did not deny her husbandââ¬â¢s death, which is another natural reaction to the loss of someone you deeply care about. After Mrs. Mallard is told of her husbandââ¬â¢s death, she retreats into her bedroom. The scenery outside is not one of death, but one of life. This is how Chopin describes the scenery while Mrs. Mallard is looking out her bedroom window: she "could see in the open square before her house the tops of tr... ...Mrs. Mallardââ¬â¢s husband walks in the front door. She looks at her husband, but all she can see is her newly-found freedom slipping away. Can you imagine the loss of such a thing as your freedom? Mrs. Mallard had just realized that she had her independence, when it was taken from her suddenly. I think the loss independence can be fatal, and in Mrs. Mallardââ¬â¢s case it was. After Mrs. Mallard dies, the doctor incorrectly diagnoses her death as "joy that kills." Now, I hope you can see, as clearly as I do, that Mrs. Mallard did not die of joy that kills, but of the loss of this powerful thing we call freedom. Works Cited Chopin, Kate "The Story of an Hour." philosophy of education Essay -- essays research papers
Progressivism My personal philosophy of education is most closely related to progressivism, which is a school of thought advocating that truth is determined by function. Progressivism is an educational philosophy focused on providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary not only to survive but also to succeed in a contemporary and competitive society. William James and John Dewey are accredited for developing the characteristically American philosophy of education that is progressivism. As the name suggests, progressivism is a philosophy that is adaptable for societyââ¬â¢s current state. It is a philosophy that promotes education aimed at helping students to develop the kind of problem solving skills that will enable them to function successfully in a competitive society. Progressivism focuses on educating students in a manner that leads them to become productive adults that adeptly function in an ever-changing world. Progressivism curriculum has a strong emphasis on problem solving and analysis, for these skills are invaluable in todayââ¬â¢s society. Without problem solving abilities, an individual is lost and alone in the puzzling maze of society that characterizes the world today. Progressivism curriculum is centered on activities and instruction that challenge the studentsââ¬â¢ problem solving and analysis abilities in an effort to strengthen these skills. Since progressivism is influenced by contemporary society, it is only appropriate that the progressivism curric...

Cognitive distortions
As a Callahan evaluating a client, It Is Important to see their viewpoints as well as their cognitive distortions that are Inhibiting their well-being. It Is Important that counselors and clinicians evaluate and discuss by the use of categorization. ââ¬Å"This helps people see more clearly the nature of their unrealistic thinking, reminds them that other people have had similar distorted cognitions, and gives them a tool for assessing subsequent thoughts. â⬠(Salesman & Richening, 2014 p. 302). Three of many cognitive distortions and ways to modify the cognitions will be discussed low. Shouldâ⬠and ââ¬Å"mustâ⬠statements can have disabling effects on a client's thoughts and how they approach situations. I believe that the use of Redistributing blame is a strategy that clinicians can use to aid in having the client focus on the root of the issue rather than attributing the outcome to a particular person or themselves. ââ¬Å"Through the use of dialogue and asking que stions that get to the heart of the problem, clinicians can help the client look at the situation more clearly. â⬠Salesman & Richening, 2014 p. 304. ).Mind reading Is another cognitive distortion that can cause a great deal of arguments and Issues when one tries to act Like they know what the other person is thinking or feeling. The use of role-playing a dialogue between old and new thoughts would be very effective with this type of cognitive distortion. ââ¬Å"This can help people clarify changes in their thinking and solidify rational thoughts. â⬠(Salesman & Richening, 2014 p 305. ). All or nothing or polarize thinking is another cognitive distortion that is an extreme ââ¬Å"black or whiteâ⬠way of life.An effective type of modification for this behavior would be challenging absolute statements. The use of this type of strategy to modify the client's way of thinking Is useful because it clarifies how the behavior truly is. After seeing the issue as a continuum, à ¢â¬Å"the clinician gives the client an opportunity to retract their absolute statement and clarify the behavior more accurately. â⬠(Salesman & Richening, 2014 p. 303). Response week 3 Hello Vanessa, I can appreciate how you used an example of how a high school oddball player is dealing with tunnel vision as his cognitive distortion. This happens many times to teenagers and it seems to be difficult for them to see any other way other than negative. I also believe that your use of journaling to counteract and trace these negative feelings will be highly effective. ââ¬Å"These written records can provide important material for discussion in sessions and serve as a way to track both progress and difficulties. â⬠(Salesman & Erlenmeyer, 2014 p. 304). Sincerely, Michael, thank you for sharing your understanding of cognitive distortions and the eateries that you would use to modify this way of thinking.I can relate to the unrealistic thinking of Jumping to conclusions. ââ¬Å"T o draw hasty and unwarranted conclusions. â⬠(Salesman & Richening, 2014 p. 302). Being an educator, I must admit, that at times I do this. I feel like your technique of cognitive rehearsal is an excellent choice for this particular client who does not believe he is worthy for a promotion. Great Job and thank you for sharing your techniques. Response 3 Hi Lauren, Thank you so much for discussing and giving an example of mental filter. As an educator sometimes we see this when meeting parents for the first time.
